Our Phenomenal Stay at Blakes Hotel in London
Before our recent trip to London, we were scouring the internet looking for a phenomenal place to stay, and we stumbled upon Blakes Hotel. We were intrigued, because this hotel was established by a renowned designer, Anouska Hempel. We knew that the décor of the hotel would be amazing, since she is a fantastic designer.
Blakes Hotel was once a row of Victorian townhouses within the neighborhoods of Kensington and Chelsea. Hempel chose to convert the townhomes into the hotel in 1978 and used her impeccable style to create an inspirational design that every guest will love. From the moment we walked inside the front door, we felt like we were at home!
This hotel is known to be frequented by numerous film stars, musicians, and top designers, and while we did not see any during our stay, we were not surprised.
Our Room at Blakes Hotel
We stayed in the luxury double room, which is massive and more than enough room for a single person, couples, or small families like ours. We had a king-sized bed in the main room with a very expansive bathroom off to the side. We loved spending our downtime unwinding in front of the television, while our iPods charged in the docking station. We had every channel imaginable, although we didn’t watch many of them due to our busy itinerary.
We did spend some time at the writing desk as well, because we wanted to document our trip as much as possible. We would do this later in the evening or early in the morning with a cup of coffee from the Nespresso machine that was in our room, as our little one was sleeping soundly.
Our Delectable Meals
We ate breakfast and dinner at Blakes Restaurant. This restaurant is on the first floor of the hotel and it serves wonderful Mediterranean cuisine that has an Asian influence.
We had the full English breakfast, coffee and fresh Juice. There are plenty of other breakfast options available, including vegetarian choices.
Starters & Salad
We started with the hand dived scallops with peas, crispy capers, and saffron and chargrilled octopus with a tomato relish, purple potato, and lime. Everything was fresh and tasty!
We enjoyed the avocado salad with fennel, artichokes, and a honey lemon dressing next and the tangy dressing really opened up our taste buds.
We didn’t think the food could possibly get any better after that, but then our Tagliatelle Rabbit Ragu and Native Lobster Paccheri Pasta was served. They were plated beautifully, and we could tell that careful consideration was used before adding additional spices. They had just the right amount, so nothing was overpowering any of the other flavorings of the dish.
We were so full but we couldn’t leave without trying the dessert, so we chose the Ferrero Rocher. It was a smooth and creamy chocolate mousse with hazelnut and feulletine that went down so easily.

Around the Hotel
We loved the elegance of Blakes Hotel and would stay there in heartbeat, simply because we were treated like royalty. The service was spectacular, without being over the top, and you definitely get your money’s worth.
The location of Blakes Hotel is good, and while they can not help where they are, we would probably prefer if it were closer to some of the attractions that we were interested in seeing. However, the location would not deter us from staying there again.
We were quite happy with our decision to eat two of our meals at the on-site restaurant, as it made our time much less rushed since we were traveling with our little one.
We highly recommend that you stay at Blakes Hotel the next time that you take a trip to London. You’ll love it!
